REALITY IS DISCO ELYSIUM

Zaktualizowano: 3 kwi 2023

If someone had to ask me what is the best game you've ever played? I wouldn't answer Red Dead Redemption 2, Cyberpunk 2077 or Diablo 3, or World of Warcraft. Thanks to the new Studio Za/Um on the Estonian market, I would answer something different. "Disco Elysium". Why?

Well, because as an RPG fan, I couldn't refuse to get touch in with this such a complex title. That's right because I didn't really play it, I absorbed it on all possible astral planes. Along with the skill of conceptualization or Inland Empire-being the mindscape of this world, I played a detective looking for his own memory after he drank almost to death. Interestingly, this is an RPG, which is not only a typical fantasy but a criminal intrigue, "Disco Elysium" combines elements of s-f, criticism of individual political systems and also playing with narrative quest history. Not only do basic skills turn into exploration skills, as I mentioned above, but above all, we enter this world only through dialogues with complex NPCs who are more human than any NPC in other RPGs. Dialogues are also based on... a monologue with your own thoughts. We talk to each other with the reptilian part of our brain, sometimes we talk with our Logic or Encyclopedia, which suggests what to do in given situations. We often talk, for example, with the doors that let us in, if we have a key, or by rolling the dice we will be able to decide if we are able to break the mystery of them. Along with the mystery of the murder and the search for memories of who we are, we, as a detective are really entering a world where corporations exercise great control over states, we are entering a world where the breakthroughs of the fourth wall are fine, and each of our decisions will have consequences what who thinks about us in the city and whether we will successfully complete the quest. Estonian production is the icing on the cake because it contains all the elements of mental realism and surrealism that I expect. We not only create mental abilities but above all, we improve our thoughts on various concepts that will bring us both benefits and consistency. Are these thoughts of forgetting what we know (Jamas Vu), or maybe increasing empathy towards women as a feminist personality, or will become a hybrid of all views that seem to contradict each other when one would actually want to combine them? We can, therefore, stand on the side of the corporation, but both by condemning any system of work by worshiping communism or maybe in a moralizing way to teach everyone how to act and fuck the fact, that the world is falling apart.  "Disco Elysium" is a widely developed game at the level of people's psyche, the character of actions, and behavior. In my opinion, this not makes it the best RPG and game of the year, but also the best game I ever played, remaining first on my list. Drawings of avatars of original characters, with unforgettable apparatuses, in the shape of oil paints, an isometric projection in the game as opposed to transparency, or maybe an abomination representation of the development of our thoughts is just another aspect of how much I loved this universe. Interestingly, the Polish aspect* of the game also manifests itself here, and I feel that the information style that the game conveys is a phenomenon these days. First of all, the detective wants to create the style of his own personality, i.e. the title divine Disco. So whatever you plan, believe me, with "Disco Elysium" you wander into different parts of the mind. 20/10
